A motor skill is a function, which involves the precise movement of muscles with the intent to perform a specific act. Most purposeful movement requires the ability to “feel” or sense what one’s muscles are doing as they perform the act. Motor difficulties occur when an individual lacks the ability to move in the way he or she originally intended. This can have a significant effect on classroom performance and motivation in school.
The achievement of motor milestones is critical to overall development in children because as the child ages and progresses in motor development (e.g., crawling to walking), they are increasingly able to explore and interact with their environment.
Motor Skill Evaluation identifies the right sport at an early age & gives opportunity for young talent to get focused training for right development. This allows Sports Science to assess talents in Sports. This would help to identify the cause of any motor difficulties and lead to recommendations for support. This varies depending on the age of the child or young person and will be age appropriate. Motor skills assessments involve a mixture of physical activities, questions, drawing and writing.
After a motor skills evaluation, recommendations can be made due to an increased understanding of a child or young person’s motor needs. These recommendations may include strategies or activities to complete at home or school, or an intervention.
